Disco at Rollerland

I am thankful to "Sabra" for remembering some of the disco songs that were played at Rollerland, a roller-disco and video game arcade in Danbury, Connecticut that I sometimes went to around 1982-1984. In Sabra's message in the "Rollerland" topic in Facebook's group "If you remember this, you grew up in the Greater Danbury Area", she listed songs she remembers hearing being spun there in the early 1980s by a DJ whose name she thinks is Dennis Rutzel (she isn't sure of the spelling).

Here are the disco ones extracted from her list:

  • Carl Carlton - She's A Bad Mama Jama (She's Built, She's Stacked)
  • Cheryl Lynn - Got To Be Real
  • Chic - Good Times
  • Chic - Le Freak
  • The Commodores - Lady (You Bring Me Up)
  • George Benson - Give Me The Night
  • Kool And The Gang - Ladies' Night
  • Shalamar - The Second Time Around
  • Sister Sledge - We Are Family

Rollerland also played great funk, soul, and electro-dance hits of the early 1980s. Those included disco-friendly songs like "Too Hot" by Kool and the Gang, "It's Raining Men" by the Weather Girls, "Let's Groove" by Earth, Wind and Fire, "Turn Your Love Around" by George Benson, "Give It To Me Baby" by Rick James, and "Love Come Down" by Evelyn King.

This list is precious. Thanks for sharing your memories!
